Guideline - Assessing Fire Risks in Photovoltaic Systems and
Developing Safety Concepts for Risk Minimization

In this guideline the results of more than 3 years of research work of the network partners with the support of further PV experts, trade associations, industrial partners, fire brigades, installation companies, insurance companies and operators were summarized.

The work covered several topic complexes:

  • Fire risk assessment in PV systems, both in the event of external fire exposure and for fire risks within the PV system itself.
  • Risk assessment in PV fires for emergency services, in particular fire brigades, and strategies for risk avoidance
  • Evaluation of possibilities for minimizing the risk of fire development and fire propagation within the facilities Derivation of recommendations regarding component and system design, materials, quality assurance during manufacture, installation and operation
